Commander USA’s Groovie Movies

Here we go into another flashback from my youth. As I sit here watching some horror and drinking coffee, I remember watching Commander USA on the USA Network on Saturday and Sunday.
I remember the cheesy intro of this guy in a flying car in a crazy superhero outfit. He had a sidekick named lefty, he drew a face on his hand with his cigar, and he would show some of the greatest movies ever! This dude had superpowers like microwave vision.
I knew from the funny jokes, and the horror movies, I was hooked. I remember staying at my dad’s girlfriends apartment, and going downstairs and seeing this beautiful gore filled madness on the screen. Then and there I found my new hero!
Where I live we didn’t have late night horror host, you had Up All Night, or the really late movies on the big networks.
Now later on we would get Joe Bob Briggs on TNT, but for a brief time we had the amazing Commander USA.
I will always remember the time I watched My Bloody Valentine on Groovie Movies. The ending to that movie will always be one of the greatest cliffhangers ever, and thanks to this show I got to see it for the first time. When we couldn’t rent movies, this is where I found the fix for my addiction to horror. Not only horror movies, but strange cinema in general. In the middle of it all was the ringleader, Commander USA, Jim Hendricks. I can’t thank this man enough for making my weekends so awesome!
I hope maybe one day I will get to thank him in person!
